I made all the way to a kmx file for my tablet. It has in it the js files and touch screen and I entered the appropriate fields where I should have entered that it is for a tablet. But when I try to install it I get a popup that it is not a Keyman file. Do I need to make it into a kvk file? If so, how do I do it?.

The output when you build a package should be a .kmp file. The .kmx is a compiled version of the desktop keyboard only.
Is there a .kmp file in your folder on your computer? Try opening that with your tablet.
It seems I do have a kmp file already in the tablet, but the tablet will not install it.
