I’m posting this question verbatim from a help ticket I received for Scripture App Builder. I personally don’t know anything about this but am reaching out for help:
The diacritic 08F7 (a small arrow) is used as a diacritic by the the Urdu-based Burushaski keyman keyboard. It shows after the character in some cases instead of on top of it, and more importantly, it splits words apart that should not be split apart. This diacritic is used to indicate short vowels. We do have minimal contrast between long and short vowels. To solve this issue is important not only for the Scripture app builder and the Awami Nastaliq font, but also for the Share the story set from TWR motion who use Noto Nastaliq font. Sunni Quwat developed for Burushaski the font files Quwatz Burushaski font, which you can google for, but this may or may not solve the issue for Share the Story and the Scripture app builder.
Character Set Support - Awami Nastaliq indicates that this font doesn’t include the U+08F7 character. In such a case the operating system takes the character from another font, but the resulting change of font breaks the rendering, which results in the Arabic text being split.
What David said is correct. Since that character is not in Awami it breaks the rendering. We are adding it to the next version of Awami, but we do not have a release date yet. If you sign up to be on the font news mailing list you’ll see the announcement when it gets updated.
