This looks like a great tool; I’m already thinking of a couple projects to start using this in. Sorry if I missed this on the app’s documentation, but is there a way to install the app locally to be able to use it offline?
Hi, Bruce! Thanks for asking. Are you wanting to install The Combine on a single device for a single user or to make it available for multiple people on different computers to collaborate locally on the same project?
The context where I could see us using this would be in a mother‑tongue literacy class that we’re supporting at a local high school. They are in a village that doesn’t have cell service; no internet available at the school. Ideally, we would have multiple users on different laptops set up to work on one dictionary for the whole class’s project: 3 or 4 “harvesters” to record words that their groups come up with; a couple of guys from our translation team to act as “editors” afterward; myself as “admin” etc.
Sounds great! We do have a pre-release installer for hosting The Combine on a Linux laptop (with Ubuntu or Wasta)–it would act as a local wifi hotspot for other nearby laptops to connect and work on the same project. I’ll email you instructions for setting it up, if you’d like to try it out.
