A user created a local language collection with an incorrect Script and Variant setting. This was not noticed until a book was uploaded to Bloom Library and it appeared in the wrong bookshelf. Having now corrected the language settings in Bloom, the text of the book needs to be copied and pasted into each page (like a shell book). However, this book was a talking book and so the audio is now lost. Is there a way to recover the audio or is the only solution to record the talking book all over again?
Hi James. I’m glad you caught the problem.
Solution 1: Repair by Spreadsheet
This solution is available to Enterprise subscribers and is described in our online documentation here:
Solution 2: least painful manual method for repairing the book
Here’s what I came up with:
- In the book’s folder, there is a sub-folder called “audio”. Copy this folder to some temporary location.
- One by one, listen to the .mp3 files in that folder to identify the audio recording, and then rename the file in such a way that you’ll be able to accurately import the audio into a repaired book.
- Open Bloom to the collection. Set Language 1 to the correct language and Language 2 to the incorrect language.
- Edit the book and turn on a 2 language display.
- Using Next/Back in the Talking Book Tool, navigate to the incorrect language and Clear the audio.
- Cut the text from the incorrect language to the correct one.
- Import the audio into the correct language box using “Import Recording” located in the Advanced section of the Talking Book Tool.
- After all editing is completed: a) set the book to a 1 language display b) change collection settings to no longer include the incorrect language.
Assuming you find this useful, I will add this procedure to our online documentation with some screenshots.
Thank you for this helpful solution. As we are using the SIL International Enterprise license, I was able to use Solution 1 (export to spreadsheet). This was quick and the talking book is now working fine. Solution 2 makes sense to me but, since I didn’t make use of it, I can’t comment on it!
