I am working on a windows device and in Microsoft Word, but whenever I try to use my IPA keyboard it changes the font to Times New Roman over Charis SIL and it is very confusing and frustrating. I have done a fresh install and I have looked everywhere for a solution. I don’t understand what this problem is or how to fix this problem and why it insists on typing in Times New Roman.
Welcome to our community, @Liam_Withrow
I do not experience this issue while typing with the IPATotal keyboard and IPA (SIL) keyboard. Would you be able to configure the font setting as shown below?
- Go to Home, and then select the Font dialog box launcher at the bottom right corner of the Font group
- Choose the font or Type in the font
- Click on Set As Default, and then click Ok.
Let us know how it goes, thanks!
It does not have Charis SIL listed under the complex scripts but it does have it in the Latin scripts section. How would I get it recognized into the correct section?
I do know this issue is often related to the languages enabled in MS Office. Can you let us know which authoring and proofing languages are configured in Office Language Preferences app? For example, here are my current settings:
I have just English in my display; English (US), Maori, Arabic (Egypt), Spanish (Mexico), and Undetermined Latin (World) in my proofing section.
Hello @Liam_Withrow,
I did my best to replicate your Word’s language settings, and tried the combinations of language proofing with English.
The font do not change unless I continue typing in the location that is assigned a different font.
My mistake on step 2. I also do not see the font but was able to just type Charis SIL in there. Could you do the same?
Could you try this in a blank document?
- Clarify that the Charis SIL font is assigned to the Complex scripts
- Select it in the font tab (all is shown in the screenshot below)
- Start typing.
It is really hard to visualize the issue unless you could provide a video or screenshots of the problem. Please put them here.
Please let us know if the issue is resolved or in need further assistance.
