We just released v2.4.0 of The Combine! The most significant updates are…
Merge Duplicates:
- If data is imported with fields not supported in The Combine (e.g., Annotations and Reversals), the words and senses with those fields are protected to prevent accidental deletion of that data. We have added the option to override this protection (with a warning of what fields will be lost). This ability is off by default, but can be enabled in the project settings.
- After all sets of words with identical vernacular forms have been processed, The Combine will start to suggest words with similar vernacular forms as potential duplicates. This latter stage wasn’t working for projects with more than a few thousand entries, but that bug is now fixed.
Data Entry:
- When entering a word with the same vernacular form as another word already in the project, The Combine pops up a dialog to allow you to either update the existing word or add a new word. This dialog has been significantly improved.
Export/Import:
- Entry flags (usually added to entries in Merge Duplicates) are now included in the LIFT export, so they will show up as a custom field (“TheCombineFlag”) in FLEx.
Login:
- In addition to logging in with your username, you can now log in with your email address instead.
Installer:
- Upgraded the installer for offline word collection to run on Ubuntu 24.04.
…and a variety of other small bugfixes and UI improvements. See the full release notes on GitHub: TheCombine/releases/tag/v2.4.0
