MS word, keyboard won't return to English

I’m running Windows 10 and MS Word 365, with Keyman 17. Frequently (but not 100% of the time), when I switch to my alternate language (Classical Greek), the Greek works fine, but then when I switch back to English it keeps typing in Greek. The language toolbar shows “EN” but it types in Greek. Not sure what is going on. There is no way to get back to English except quit Word and reopen the file, then everything is fine until I need to type a Greek word after which it won’t switch back again without quitting Word. The problem does NOT occur in other Office programs so far (Excel, PP). Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the community @IsidoreNabi,

I’m sorry to hear about this. Is this the keyboard you’re having the issue with? Does this behavior occur anywhere else other than MS office?

I was testing this keyboard on Windows 11 and everything is working fine.

Please update Keyman and the keyboard to the latest version.

Thank you!

Thanks. Yes, that is the keyboard. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled keyman (latest version). I’m working in Windows 10 educational. And yes, the problem only seems to be in MS Word (365, up-to-date).

Please send a diagnostic report following this instruction.

Can you try to use other Greek keyboards to see if this issue still occur?

Dear Nyny, thank you so much for this help. I think I’ve solved the problem. I followed your advice and installed a different Greek Polytonic keyboard and the problem persisted, but it persisted only when I used one specific font for the Greek (Garamond classical), for which I had a hotkey assigned (to switch between it and normal Garamond for typing English). When I used Times New Roman (which I hadn’t previously tried, but which was forced by the new keyboard), the problem disappeared. I poked around in the MS Word preferences and it turned out there was an error with how the hotkeys for the font switch were assigned. The hotkey that was supposed to switch me back to Garamond for English typing was actually switching me back to the Greek keyboard that I had just tried to switch out of (Win+space bar). Crazy and hard to explain, I know, but the upshot is that it was a hotkey corruption in Word, not a fault with Keyman at all. I wouldn’t have ever found it without your suggestion, so I really appreciate your help on this and your patience. Cheers,
