I think the Cantonese, Vietnamese, Choang, Hakka should use the same romanization system.
In the 19th and 20th century many missionaries come of East Asia and make the romanization
But as we know finally only vietnamese become popular, other romanization they are not convinient to write or read, and as we know at that moment they don’t have internet or very effective communication tools, every missionary make their own standard and not form a unify and standard script. Many of them have large disadvantage and not fitting to write or read.
Finally the vietnamese script become the only one among then to get truly popular and become a nation’s writing system.
So why not I just look back, remake some of those romanizations and match their spelling with Vietnamese, because vietnamese is a really diversed language and preserve the mid-chinese very well. In this digital age, we can do the job within one week comparing with the early industrialized period, they spend years to finish works. With the help of AI we even do faster.
The romanization comes in 17th century however the mid-chinese exist during the 8th century to 13th century, so non of the romanization of current language can truly represent the mid-chinese, maybe cantonese and vietnamese preserve the most while the pronounciation Japanese, Wu and Mandarin Chinese distorted much.
If the vietnamese spelling system is proved to be effective, after over one hundred years of practising, (only after we try, we can know whether the writing system works, for example the Cantonese Church Romanization failed because the spelling is not easy to read or write) we can use it to represent other related languages. Now I think after 400 years of invention and over 100 years of intensive practising, the vietnamese script has already have the same authority with traditional chinese characters, and can be used to represent other languages with related with Chinese and preserve the mid-chinese in south of Yangtze river.
As we know the vietnam war is one of the most brutal war in history, both side use the same writing system and they don’t quite change the writing through the war, it proves at least the vietnamese chu quoc ngu script system is effective and accurate when spreading military information and government rules, writing laws, which Taiwanese Beh Oe Ji system haven’t done. Taiwanese Army is using mandarin chinese for almost all military communication and it does not guarantee any security at all. The Beh Oe Ji system still has some disadvantages for reading and writing.
I have tried to use vietnamese script to represent Zhuang and Hoisan cantonese, the respond is positive. Before that Hoisan cantonese and Zhuang don’t truly have a working writing system, no one really write or type those languages for practice use. After the invention of Lac Viet and Hoisan keyboard they have now.
