Hello! I am helping the Tsilhqotin National Government set up some iPads for instructors to lead workshops in the community for learning the Tsilhqotin language.
I currently have our iPads joined to our Intune tenant which is acting as their MDM authority. The iPads are configured in guest mode which means no user data is saved across sessions after the user logs out. They will be passed around frequently from one workshop to the next. I have been using keyman successfully on them so far but one issue is every time you log in as a new user you have to install the keyboard in keyman and grant it access in iOS settings.
Is there any way I can use an App Configuration Policy in Intune to automatically add the Tsilqhotin keyboard? An app configuration policy allows me to input XML configuration keys and values for other apps to automatically configure them for our organisation but I am not sure if the keyman iOS app has such options. If anyone has any ideas on how to get around this issue it would be much appreciated, thanks.
Apologies for the inconvenience. I currently don’t have access to any iPads to test this issue directly but I will reach out to our developer regarding the configuration policies.
As an alternative, you could consider creating a custom Tsilhqotin keyboard app using the Keyboard App Builder. Once installed, this might eliminate the need to reinstall the keyboard on Keyman each time a new user logs in.
We don’t currently have support for this, but it sounds like it would be a fantastic feature to add to Keyman for iPhone and iPad. I’ve opened an issue for discussion with my team at #13377. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately it looks like this is only available for Android devices at the moment. I will make sure to keep an eye out for if iOS support gets added, but I know the process for adding custom apps to iOS is a bit more involved.
Hi Marc. Thank you so much for adding this as potential feature, I’m sure the list must be quite long. I have successfully been using automatic deployment for our Windows machines but an option for Intune/MDM would be much appreciated.
I just learned that support for iOS not yet been announced. However, if you install the version of KAB for macOS, it should allow for building an iOS keyboard app. We need to do some testing here as well before full support is announced.
