Cellphone won't install Keyman

My new Cellphone won’t install Keyman.exe.When I try it says “Can’t preview this file type”. Is there anything I can do?

You install Keyman from Google playstore.

Thanks for your reply.
Now, when I try to install the the kmp file that I made and installed on my laptop, it says that it is a zip file that cannot be extracted.

It says that it is not a valid Keyman package, but I already have it installed on my laptop and tablet.

If you built the package from Keyman Developer it should be valid. If you built it another way it is probably not valid.
Also, sometimes the problem is that the language tag was not set in the kps file in the Keyboards tab. It won’t install without that being set.

It was built by the Keyman Developer and was successfully installed on my Laptop and Tablet. I don’t recall about the kps file, but assume it was done right since it was installed into my previous cellphone. How can I check about the kps file and fix it if need be? Must I redo the whole keyboard?

I got to step 2 and received “Phonetic Hebrew 3.4 kmp.zip is not a valid Keyman package”.

Somehow, it looks like the file has been renamed from “Phonetic Hebrew 3.4.kmp” to “Phonetic Hebrew 3.4 kmp.zip” (so it is not recognized as a .kmp file). I don’t know how you downloaded the .kmp file onto your phone, so I don’t know how that has happened.

If you can rename the file on the device to “Phonetic Hebrew 3.4.kmp”, it should work.

If that doesn’t work, then can you share the .kmp file with us so we can test here?

Finally, if you can give us the exact steps you took to get your keyboard onto your phone, that may help us for future support as well.

I transferred the working kmp file from my laptop as a download to my new cellphone to the “files, downloads” section. On my laptop the file is described as simply kmp. I don’t know how the zip got there. I can’t rename the file without “zip” because then it says the file already exists.
Attached is the kmp file from my laptop. As you can see, the kmp was blocked for security reasons. I tried to send it with Google Drive as indicated, but since I have no experience with Google Drive I’m not sure you got it. If not could you please walk me through the procedure to send it to you.

  1. If the file with the .kmp extension is already there, you should remove the existing file before renaming – then you should be able to rename without trouble.
  2. To send via Google Drive, you’ll need to send the link from Google Drive to us (maybe via private message rather than email) – visit SIL Software Community – new message to do this; you’ll need to login if you have never done this before.

I finally figured out how to send you the file. here it is.

The file looks okay, so it’s down to the fact that it has been renamed on your Android device. It needs to have a .kmp file extension; the name doesn’t matter so much. Try renaming it to ‘phonetic_hebrew_3_4.kmp’.

Or was the .kmp file zipped up for the transfer to the Android device? In that case you’d need to unzip the .zip file (that is, extract the original .kmp file from the .zip file).
