Hi folks - I have a Mac M3 laptop running Parallels 20. I had previously had Keyman (16?) running fine, and was typing away happily in Toolbox 1.6.4 using the IPA (SIL) keyboard. But that was about 6 months ago. Coming back to my project now and with Win11, Parallels and Keyman all updated, this setup is no longer working. Since I can’t manage to type even in Notepad on the Win11 install, the issue seems to be either with Keyman, or perhaps in how it’s interacting with Win11 and/or (most likely?) Parallels. I am able to select the IPA (SIL) keyboard and see the engma icon, and I have also tried the trick of associating it with Icelandic and deleting the default “Unknown Latin” keyboard. But nothing is happening; it’s as though Keyman was completely invisible to the system. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both Keyman and the IPA (SIL) keyboard, but the outcome remains. I’d be very grateful for any advice!
Welcome to our community @Mark_Post,
Thanks for reporting on this! Our developer has been working to support Keyman for Windows ARM64, so there are further progress to be made.
For now, would you be able to downgrade Keyman to version 17.0.326? This version should allow typing in Notepad.
If Keyman continues to be incompatible with other software, could you roll back to the working version (16.0)?
Please visit this link for details, and stay updated with the latest progress and fixes on the issue.
Thanks very much Mengheng - the downgrade to 16 has worked for me.
It may be worth pointing out for other users that it’s necessary to go through another step to select version 16 when installing even after downloading the version 16 package, as the installer automatically updates and tries to install the latest version (17, as shown on the left hand side of the installer dialog) - even though the headline text still indicates that it’s installing 16.
But anyway, I’m back and running, so thanks again!!
PS- Another minor-ish issue - the hotkeys are hard-set to “after” in my setup somehow, even after “before” is selected in the “keyboard options” dialog. I’ll get used to it, but hopefully this is addressed in 17.
PPS- I did have to associate Icelandic with the IPA keyboard through Add/remove language and delete the “unknown Latin” keyboard to get it working.
We’re glad to hear this, and thanks for responding with the details @markwpost.
There was an issue related to the IPA (SIL) Keyboard but it was addressed for Windows 10. If you are encountering a similar issue with key mapping of the keyboard on Windows 11, please open an issue here.
Regarding the Keyboard option of the keyboard, I have raised the issue here and feel free to let us know if there are any missing information.
Were you able to type the IPA keyboard layout with the “unknown Latin” language? The keyboard is designed to associate with the und-Latn
language but should be configurable after installation according to the User.
Let us know. Thank youǃ
