Audio files not available

I have a project with 1100 short audio files recorded through Language Depot. They’ve been synced with a flex project and appear as .webm files. The language is correctly defined and the files play as expected in Flex. However they do not appear when the dictionary is exported through LIFT 13.0 to DAB. I’ve checked that the language is enabled and the audio files are included in the package. I have the most recent versions of both flex and DAB and have tried on both a windows 11 and OSX machine. What else can I do to troubleshoot?

It is a well-known bug that DAB only imports audio recorded in FLEx, not audio that you imported into FLEx. Don’t expect this to get fixed either. However, this thread might show a way to store audio files online, it seems to work for the users in that thread.

oh. I had assumed that the difference was files that are attached /uploaded manually, as opposed to ones recorded through a native SIL application (flex or language forge). I’ve now read that post and I don’t want to stream the audio, since not everyone has an internet connection and cell service. The audio package makes the app about 40mb larger, so it’s not gigantic. It also looked like form that post that no one had actually tested webm files (that’s the default that languageforge creates, though!)

Hi Claire,

Seeing you post here too after the Flex board I felt like I had to do a little bit of testing  After multiple configuration attempts, I was able to get webm files to work in a DAB-built app. But…I was not able to get it to work with any filetype (wav, webm, mp3) based on a LIFT export…and I tried multiple configurations. I could only get it to work based off an XHTML configured dictionary.

I’m not sure where your webm files imported to in the Flex project but I imagine it’s either the pronunciation line item, or a separate vernacular audio language. Be aware that those are two separate check boxes in the Flex dictionary setup. I also noticed that when I tried to import webm audio into the pronunciation line individually (not with bulk edit like I did for the vernacular audio language line), my PC did not give me the option to choose webm files. I had to click on the drop down and click “all file types” before they showed up as available.

If you you give it a go with XHTML and still get stuck, post and I’ll see if I can help.
